About the Position: Position functions in the Administrative Unit of a staff office or technical division, performing a variety of word processing, database maintenance and general clerical work in support of office activities.

Duties

Uses word processing software to prepare a variety of complex technical correspondence, design memoranda, formal reports, studies, etc. Independently composes and prepares routine and recurring correspondence. Serves as the organization's primary/alternate timekeeper: records, compiles and reports time and attendance and daily labor costs for the office. Reviews material to be typed to identify and correct spelling and grammatical errors, develop proper layout, clarify obvious oversights or consistencies, etc. Assists in the collection, analysis, and assembly of inspection estimates for preparation of the office budget using worksheets and reports in support of programming activities and management of construction contracts. Maintains a current practical knowledge of the processes, procedures and directives which pertain to office clerical activities and serves as the office's source of expertise on clerical matters.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and screening visitors and phone calls; operating application programs on a computer in order to update, revise or manipulate data or documents; preparing a variety of correspondence requiring accuracy in spelling, grammar, formatting and spacing; and utilizing office automation software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, etc.) to produce a wide range of documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Qualification requirement: Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
