This position is located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) in Ambulatory and Inpatient settings. The incumbent provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care, as well as responsibilities for on-going patient data collection and documentation in the medical record. Incumbent assist the health care providers in performing assigned tasks within the scope of training. Receives general supervision from the RN.
Duties

Performs assigned procedures including, but not limited to: electrocardiogram testing (EKG); wound cleansing; initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements; application of monitor leads, specimen collection, and transports stable telemetry or nonmonitored patients to nursing units.
Recognizes and reports abnormalities and/or changes in the patient's health status and responses to treatment to a licensed professional. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for which care is provided.
Accurately records information in the patient record, documents vital signs and procedures completed, as well as the equipment and techniques utilized.
Sets up, prepares patient and assists with patient exam and minor surgical or health procedures within scope of training such as, but not limited to: lumbar punctures; sterile instrument and field preparation, suturing lacerations, chest tube insertion, closed fracture reduction, gastric lavage, pelvic examinations, restraint application, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Collects patient specimens and data, including vital signs, input/output and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care. Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care. Assists in the transportation of patient specimens. performs point of care testing for blood glucose or other tests, and performs quality control
checks on point of care equipment as required.
Maintains appropriate levels of stock in medication room, exam room bedside carts, and specialty carts. Assists with health unit coordination tasks and reception responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience performing intake procedures by obtaining chief complaint; purpose of visit, experience taking vital signs, i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and pain screen.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-06
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience performing review of patient charts via Electronic Health Record (EHR); experience determining and carrying out preventative care needs according to standing orders and experience notifying medical provider of abnormal findings. Experience in venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, performing basic wound/skin care measures, and administering oral medication, typical of experienced medical assistant or health education positions.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
