About the Position: Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Duties
Prepares legal and non-legal documents for clients to be reviewed by attorneys.
Assists individuals in developing needed evidence, preparing required documents, and resolving errors, delays, or other problems in obtaining benefits or fulfilling obligations.
Provides administrative support to clients such as answering questions, scheduling appointments for attorney consultations and typing up documentation.
Provides information to clients on rights, benefits, privileges or obligations under various laws, judicial decisions, regulations, and policies by explaining legal provisions, regulated and administrative practices.
Requirements
- This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience which includes researching, reviewing and preparing legal documents and examining each for completeness of information; retrieving and assembling information for hearings and/or trial use; investigating a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
