About the Position: This position is located with the US Installation Management Command, US Army Garrison Fort Johnson, Directorate of Emergency Services, Fire Protection & Prevention Division, Fort Johnson, Louisiana.

Duties

Investigate new and unusual work and living situations to detect and eliminate fire hazards. Serve as a member of a firefighting force in the event of an emergency in a support role. Conduct periodic and special inspections of principal high to low hazard buildings on post. Conduct presentations and lectures on fire safety and prevention topics throughout the installation. Maintain reports and records concerning the fire prevention program activities.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. The position requires a secret security clearance.
• This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires you to work a 40 hour shift with one being a 24 hour shift, 60 hours per week and a 120 hours per pay period. May be required to work overtime and subject to recall as the need arises.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
• The position requires the following firefighter certifications upon entry: Fire Inspector I and II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Hazardous Materials Operations and Hazardous Materials Awareness
• The employee is required to successfully complete the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification requirements within one year (365 days) of employment.
