You will serve as an EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT, RIGGING AND EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS DIVISION ACCIDENT PREVENTION PROGRAM BRANCH, of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. SALARY: GS-9: $62,517 - $81,272 GS-11: $75,640 - $98,330

Duties

You will serve as Accident Prevention Program subject matter expert. You will review and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics, manufacturer’s literature, and maintenance procedures to identify deficiencies in complex lifting and handling equipment processes. You will prepare and issues briefings, alerts, newsletters, accident reports, and other assessment reports for all established programs. You will liaison with shops, Shop Superintendents, Nuclear Coordinator, Process Managers, Resource Managers, and Engineers to ensure effective and efficient coordination with established program requirements. You will instruct and advise all levels of workers and management on program requirements. You must be knowledgeable of references and guidelines governing lifting and handling work at PHNSY and IMF (i.e. Corporate Lifting and Handling Manual, NAVFAC P-307, ASME B30, Local procedures, etc.) You will keep the Manager apprised of unanticipated major problems or controversies. You will be responsible to oversee the technical aspects of established work plans for the operation of maintenance installations, modification, repair and testing of all lifting and handling equipment located at PHNSYand IMF.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing proper lifting and handling production work and safety. . For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting in providing proper lifting and handling production work and safety. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

For the GS-11:
-Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR
-Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree; OR
-Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled;
OR-A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

For the GS-09:
-Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR
-Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; OR
-Successful completion of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled;
OR-A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
