Duties

This job opportunity is located in the Coding and Research Section, Geography Branch (GB), National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, IN. This position performs statistical assistant assignments in support of programs. This position is included in the bargaining unit. The individual selected for this position will: Select and tabulate data, check data for conformance to established patterns, and resolve minor discrepancies. Prepare tables including keying, verifying, and formatting data for presentation and publication. Contact respondents to collect data and perform analysis of statistical data in relation to previously reported data, resolving questionable data responses at the time of contact. Conduct statistical research, review of tabulation and analysis as to reasonableness of reported information. Assist in evaluation and research programs by assembling data from various sources, making statistical calculations, and summarizing results for professional review, with responsibility for carrying out all steps required in the analysis. Tour of Duty: Hours will be 7:00 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 04 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as assigning codes to textual or verbatim responses and resolving or adjudicating coding conflicts on various types of surveys. Education Substitution: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university may be substituted for the required experience for the grade 5. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet qualifications. Note to current NPC employees: If you are a current NPC employee and are selected from this announcement, this selection will change your type of appointment to a Term Appointment. At the end of this Term Appointment, your employment with NPC will end. You will be required to re-compete for any permanent positions. In some cases, you may be eligible for reinstatement.
