About the Position: Serve as an Architect the Directorate of Public Works and engages in planning and/ or designing substantial new construction, renovation and improvement projects for a variety of real property facilities.
Duties
At the GS-11 level, the candidate will receive advanced on the job training and instruction. Tasks are frequently portions of broader assignments. At the full performance level (GS-12), you will be responsible for the following:
Analyze renovations and improvements needed to meet new mission and environmental requirements.
Plan and/or monitor large scale facilities projects to ensure compliance with applicable objectives, standards and requirements.
Monitor and/or manage substantial new construction, renovation and improvement projects utilizing a professional knowledge of architecture.
Evaluate and recommend development plans for construction, renovation and improvements of real property facilities.
Serve as technical representative for negotiation and administration of contracts.
Evaluate programs and development plans for construction, renovation and improvements of real property facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary duty travel (5% or less) away from the normal duty station may be required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License.
- Overtime may be required to meet work requirements on an emergency basis.
- Must have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This is a developmental position and may be filled either the GS 11 or GS 12 grade level. Full performance is the GS 12 level.
You must meet one of the basic education requirements, as well as the specialized experience, to qualify for this position. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
For the GS-11 level: Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes experience preparing portions of conventional engineering plans, designs, and/or design specifications; using computer aided design and drafting (CADD) or related software to prepare/review designs; and provide support to engineers with facilities inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education substitution for GS 11 level: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: General Engineering, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
For the GS-12 level: Specialized Experience required: : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience planning and/or monitoring large scale facilities, construction, renovation and improvements projects; and, evaluating plans of real property facilities to ensure compliance with objectives, standards and requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education substitution for GS-12: You must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
