This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Uintah and Ouray Agency in Fort Duchesne, Utah. The incumbent will perform maintenance on surfaces and adhere to an established Annual Work Plan, while providing leadership and guidance to Transportation employees.

Duties
Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs, which cannot be disposed of promptly.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available verbal or written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
Conduct routine maintenance on Agency routes and non-routine or emergency maintenance on all Agency routes.
Make decisions on work site regarding completion of assigned work and the most effective steps of maintenance to equipment.
Perform construction equipment operations such as surface repairs, grading, material hauling, signage, guardrails and trash clean up.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Specialized Experience WG-10: Work experience performing Leader functions providing direction as well as equipment operation. Locating job sites and getting equipment to the designated location. Estimating materials and inventory of supplies needed.

Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Physical Demands: Requires arduous physical exertion involving constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving arms, hands, feet, and legs to operate equipment and attachments. Strain, vibration, jerking, and jolting are factors due to operating in rough terrain. Requires average or above average strength, ability and muscular endurance to perform assigned duties. Incumbent frequently carries, lifts, and supports items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing approximately 100 pounds. Must exert effort in moving and controlling powered and non-powered equipment.
Working Conditions: This involves the hazards of temperatures more than 100 F and subzero temperatures approximately four months out of the year. The Operator must exercise proper judgment in avoiding sun stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, frost bite and other conditions associates with extreme high and low temperatures. Majority of the work is performed on gravel and surfaced highways. Strict adherence to safety regulations must be observed during performance of all duties to avoid serious injury. The Operator is subject to excessive noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes form gasoline and diesel exhausts.
