This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Uintah and Ouray Agency in Fort Duchesne, Utah. Incumbent will adhere to an established Annual Work Plan to perform maintenance on surfaces both grade and drain maintenance and bituminous surface maintenance.

Duties
Operates one or more pieces of heavy engineering equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of gravel and or surfaced highways and mountain access roads.
Perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment utilizing hand powered tools, mechanical tools, greasing devices, and other repair equipment.
Make decisions on work site with regard to completion of assigned work to determine priorities and the most effective steps of maintenance to equipment.
Maintain daily report of completed work; maintain records of labor use, equipment's and materials.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Specialized Experience WG-10: Work that included working independently with various heavy equipment, working on various roadways, working on various soils on different terrain, ability to judge soil and terrain. Performing preventative maintenance on equipment and transporting equipment as needed and knowledge of surface conditions when operating vehicles and equipment.

Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Physical Demands: Requires average or above average strength, ability and muscular endurance to perform assigned duties. Incumbent frequently carries, lifts, and supports items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing approximately 100 pounds. Must exert effort in moving and controlling powered and non-powered equipment.
Working Conditions: This involves the hazards of temperatures more than 100 F and subzero temperatures approximately four months out of the year. The Operator must exercise proper judgment in avoiding sun stroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, frost bite and other conditions associates with extreme high and low temperatures. Majority of the work is performed on gravel and surfaced highways. Strict adherence to safety regulations must be observed during performance of all duties to avoid serious injury. The Operator is subject to excessive noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes form gasoline and diesel exhausts.
