The Medical Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse is directly responsible to the Inpatient Nurse Manager for the Inpatient Acute Unit. He/she is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population. He/she possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.

Knowledge of convalescence and rehabilitation requirements for patients Skill in developing, planning, implementing, evaluating, documenting, and managing nursing care. Administer medications and other treatments that are appropriate to the patient's situation and based upon provider order. Demonstrate competence with the utilization of electronic documentation systems to ensure safe patient care, including CPRS, VISTA, and BCMA Respond proactively to changes in patient condition to prevent or minimize adverse patient outcomes. Document assessment findings based on facility policy and in a timely manner. Reconcile medications and treatments across transitions of care. Documentation and acknowledgment of all new provider orders throughout the tour of duty. Document nursing interventions Perform a physical assessment using age-appropriate, system-specific, evidence-based tools and techniques based on facility policy for timeliness and provider orders for exceptions. Advocate for patient Document the patient's response to interventions and changes to the plan of care. Maintain appropriate physical and emotional boundaries. Monitor cardiac rhythm throughout the tour of duty and notify the provider of any significant changes in rhythm. Identify barriers to effective communication and make appropriate adaptations. Document appropriate aspects of nurse-patient interactions Maintain current license and up to date BLS/ACLS certification. Maintain Fit Testing Competency Utilize technologies to enhance nursing practice. Participate in shared governance unit-based council and play a key role in quality improvement activities. Seeks opportunities to advance professionally in nursing practice. Serves as a clinical content expert for the design and enhancement of competencies, policies, and processes that affect nursing care at the unit level. Maintain current and up to date with mandatory competency requirements to include VA Talent Management System (TMS) training. Identify malfunctioning equipment or devices at the unit level and place work orders for timely repair. Appropriately identify patient safety events and document in Joint Patient Safety Record This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignments. Duties listed below but not limited to: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the Veteran. Understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. Performs patient assessment and provides appropriate concerns regarding Veteran condition based on a sound theoretical and technical basis. Uses sound clinical judgment in ensuring the delivery of care to the patient population on assigned area(s). Recognizes and understands arrhythmia significance, recognizes symptoms, and anticipates or initiates appropriate nursing measures Interprets and assures compliance of policies and procedures with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Directives and Handbooks, Office of the Inspector General (OIG) requirements, and other accrediting bodies as applicable. These 2C RNs must also be available to respond to all Rapid Response and Code Blue emergencies throughout the Fayetteville VA Medical Center and and to care for Veterans admitted from the OR or possible admissions from some of the basic complexity surgeries for observation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. 2 years Med/Surg telemetry unit, ACLS/BLS Preferred Experience: Med-Surg Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required.
