Employee serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Healthcare System, San Francisco, CA. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities; Advises, counsels and instructs employees on work and administrative manners, such as complaints, grievances, etc.; Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production; Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new, complex or unusual situations and those without clear precedence; Oversees management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock, ensure critical supplies are monitored, perform daily inventory, resolve differences in records, distribute items, deliver supplies in a timely manner, and complete specialty cart preparation; Oversees the receipt of supplies and material into the medical center; Ensures supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas; Analyzes and resolves difficult issues and problems in order to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions; Conducts market research on all new products and ensures they are recorded in the automated inventory system; Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system; Analyzes management reports in order to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems; Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center on Logistics issues; and Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes. Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supervisory Supply Technician position. Specialized experience includes: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitoring expiration dates; ensuring supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must possess a current, valid state issued driver's license. Please do not upload a copy of your license with your application package. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management, processing orders, distributing supplies, conducting physical inventories in the warehouse and various supply points. Responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points, as well as within the bulk supply areas. This may include movement of stock to assist in counting, storing, rotating, and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Physical exertions and demands include standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, and pushing/pulling supply carts and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds are required.
