About the Position: Position is located at US Army Forces Command, US Army Air Traffic Services Command, 597th Maintenance Detachment,
Cairns AAF, Fort Novosel, Alabama.
Duties
Diagnose causes of unusual malfunctions in all supported tactical ATS equipment from
symptoms furnished by on-site technicians by telephone or email.
Serve as senior electronics technician of a mobile maintenance contact team (MMCT) which provides on-site technical assistance.
Train unit technicians, MMCT members, and supported unit personnel in all facets of troubleshooting, maintenance, safety, and operation of equipment.
Instruct on-site technicians in the use of special test equipment and troubleshooting techniques to be used in isolating and replacing faulty components.
Serve as certification examiner responsible for administering written and hands-on evaluations for the Army's certification program.
Correct malfunctions, certifies accuracy, and substantiates reliability of electronic navigational systems comprised of a wide variety of highly complex circuitry, requiring extensive and varied application of higher-level knowledge.
Develop or expand on diagnostic test and alignment procedures to be used on standard and non-standard equipment when procedures are not available or are inadequate in existing publications.
Serve as senior technical inspector and senior technical expert responsible for all quality control and quality assurance standards.
Supervise support equipment repairs of AN/TPN-31 Air Traffic Navigation, Integration, Coordination System, AN/TSQ-221 Tactical Airspace Integration System, AN/TSQ-198, 198A Tactical Terminal Control System, AN/MSQ-135 Mobile Tower System.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 80 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Must be able to climb 10 feet.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of10% of the time.
- Must be granted Maintenance Certification Authority on Army air traffic control navigational aids, landing, and/or communications systems.

Specialized Experience: One-year specialized experience which includes (1)experience maintaining and/or evaluating tactical Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems/equipment using electronic maintenance theory; (2) experience serving as an ATS Maintenance certification examiner; and (3) experience performing maintenance as an Air Traffic Control Equipment Repairer to equipment such as the AN/TPN-31 ATNAVICS AN/TSQ-221 TAIS, AN/TSQ-198 and 198A TTCS and/or AN/MSQ-135 MOTS. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
