About the Position: This is a Mechanical Tool Work Inspector, WG-3401-12 position with Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center located in Rock Island, Illinois.
This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 month position. It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
Duties
Evaluates the accuracy of the manufacturing process during and after production using statistical process control and problem-solving techniques.
Inspects for compliance to technical requirements.
Reports deficiencies and possible corrective actions.
Participate in conferences to contribute information/documentation relating to specific problems/changes.
Instruct employees on proper interpretation of blueprints and other technical instructions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
- This position has a lifting requirement of up to 45 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machine Tool Work Inspector~ without more than normal supervision. Perform inspections of components, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies to ensure compliance; knowledge of metals, castings and forgings ect in order to perform acceptance inspections; use precision measurement instruments and machines; use advance shop mathematics to ensure accuracy; utilize a variety of measuring and testing equipment to guarantee accurate inspections - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work requires moderate physical exertion, primarily walking and standing on hard surfaces, with occasional periods of bending, stopping and climbing. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lifting of 45lbs and over.
Working Condition: Work is usually performed in well lighted, heated and ventilated shop. Inspector is exposed to constant noise, coolants, solvents, oils, grease, operating machinery and moving vehicles. May be assigned to second or third shift in accordance with the current negotiated agreement.
