Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, Human Resources Policy and Programs Directorate, National Programs Division, Medical and Fitness Branch, located in Washington, DC.

Duties

This position starts at a salary of $139,395.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $181,216.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $181,216.00 (GS-14 Step 10). In the Supervisory Nurse Consultant position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals analyzing medical and fitness data to improve quality control and assurance processes. Typical work assignments include: Overseeing Human Resources Management programs with efforts in medical consultation, advisory services and programs, policy oversight and assistance, and contract administration. Serving as the technical expert in occupational health nursing with responsibility for providing program direction, expert advice and consultative assistance to occupational Nurse Consultants and senior field management concerning employee health and fitness for duty issues. Providing oversight for the work performed by subordinate Nurse Consultants which includes, but not limited to: Reviewing of medical documentation submitted by employees to support requested leave in accordance Federal laws, and transfers of Duty Station requests in compliance with provisions set forth in Collective Bargaining Agreements, return to work and fitness for duty cases.

Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Nurse Licensure/Registration: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination . In addition, you must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. NOTE: Conferred Transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be accepted at the time of application; official transcripts will be requested upon selection) AND a copy of current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse documentation must be provided at the time of application. Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing expert guidance on medical cases/issues and trends affecting the workforce. Developing and/or implementing strategies of complex medical consultation. Evaluating the quantitative and qualitative data for the effectiveness of workforce medical issues and analysis of such information and data.
