Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Student Trainee (Legal), you will use your knowledge of and experience with the Office of the National Coordinator to optimize business results and customer experience by: Research and review informational and decision papers, proposed regulations, and other issues and identify significant activities related to Departmental and ONC policies and programs. Participate in policy development and research best practices for ensuring compliance with various laws and regulations. Assemble materials for staff associated with briefings, conferences, and meetings. Draft and edit legal and non-legal memoranda, research reports, and correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications For GS-7: Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) full academic year of graduate level education as determined by the college, university or school. (Note: If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester/27 quarter hours is considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.) OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) with successful completion of a Bachelor's degree. S.A.A. is based on one of the following:(Must provide supporting documentation) Class Standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum., or Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. Pathways Internship Eligibility:

Be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half-time basis.

NOTE: You MUST provide proof that you are currently enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment in the next academic term on a full-time or part-time basis.

Special Instructions for Foreign Education: If you are using education completed at foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by an accredited private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
