Duties

Operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, cars and SUVs) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites. Use various methods to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and other kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces. Remove stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Vacuum/clean rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjust, clean and oil vacuums and change brushes, rollers, buffers, and other vacuum attachments. Move heavy boxes, crates, equipment, wood scraps, metal or other obstacles to ensure the area is clean and safe. Maintain stock of expendable supplies at each building site. Scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial high- powered scrubbers and buffers. Wash walls using power wall washing machine and/or by hand.

Qualifications

An appointment to this position is restricted by law (5 U.S.C. 3310) to Veterans who are preference eligible as long as such applicants are available. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Custodial Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required when using ladders and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceiling fixtures, operating power equipment, trash removal, and occasionally lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work Environment: May be exposed to vibrations from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors.
