This position is located within the Engineering Service at the VA Medical in Cleveland, Ohio.

Duties

Duties may include, but may not be limited to the following: Performs lubricating, and cleaning, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying and testing to assure continues safe service. Ability to reassemble and test to assure satisfactory operation of assemblies within predetermined limits, using hand tools and test instruments. Plans, lays-out and completes the installation, modification, and repairs of various systems, circuits, equipment, and controls found in the station electrical distribution systems. Uses test equipment such as, hand-held programmers, remote controls, multi-meters, tachometers, spring force gauges, wire gauges, and the troubleshooting/diagnostic program built into the elevators computer to determine circuit faults and malfunctions in the elevator. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance inspections; and performs scheduling, monitoring and record-keeping of inspections and testing that are done under contract. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires lifting, carrying, pulling, steadying, or otherwise moving elevator parts, chain falls, weight blocks, or tools weigh up to 75 pounds. Adjustments, repair, or replacement of part of assemblies may require kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching over, under, and into equipment while in cramped or awkward positions. The ability to distinguish either basic or shades of colors. Applicant must possess emotional and mental stability. The Elevator Mechanic is frequently exposed to abrasions, cut, burns, or shock, broken bones, skin irritations, or other serious injury from slips, falls, moving parts and equipment, high voltage components, hydraulic oils, or machinery while working in cramped spaces and around hot, oily, and dusty surfaces. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
