Duties

Responds to fires and directs the crew in firefighting activities. Directs firefighters in placing of apparatus, adjustment of water pressures, etc. Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols. Directs and participates in training. Conducts training using both lecture and demonstration techniques. Performs work leader functions to include distributing and balancing workloads. Evaluates work in progress; amends or rejects work not meeting established standards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to submit to an annual medical examination and pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the employee to comply with Drug Abuse Testing requirements.
  • This position requires a valid stateside driver’s license.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
  • This position requires rotating shifts and a 53-hour workweek.
  • This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
  • This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
  • This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions.
  • This position is an inclement weather position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). In addition to Specialized Experience, the position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). This position requires that the individual possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications. NOTE: For each certification listed above, you MUST submit a copy with your application package, or you will be rated in-eligible. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical CareFire SuppressionManaging Human ResourcesTeaching Others Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Time-in-grade documentation: If you are applying for a higher grade and your SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you meet the one year time-in-grade requirement so you will need to provide an SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements (examples of appropriate SF-50s include Promotions, Within-grade Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s with an effective date more than one year old).
