You will serve as a Physical Science Technician of NAVSUP FLC SD GF.

Duties

You will complete Hazardous Material training (HAZWOPER) You will follow instructions and procedures both written and verbal. You will perform test to determine the quality of fuel products through the use of chemical agents. You will set-up, operate and calibrate analytical and chemical equipment. You will record results, analyze and input data into a programmable computer, and report results to Supervisory Chemist before distributing to customers. You will repair and/or calibrate portions of instruments and equipment not under maintenance contract. You will independently perform a broad range of chemical analysis, test methods, and procedures required for determining the quality of petroleum and lubricating fuel. You will perform other duties as assigned.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to complete Hazardous Material training (HAZWOPER).
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires occasional travel.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying methods of chemical analysis, and skills to test, analyze and evaluate facts and trends in product test results. Utilizing criteria such as measurements, observations, specifications, standard analytical procedures and reference material to perform a variety of chemical and physical Quality Assurance tests on the quality of petroleum products in order to analyze, consolidate and report findings. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Test water discharge samples to ensure drainage meets environmental permits limits; 2) Determine whether products meet prescribed specifications or environmental regulations; and 3) Performing chemical analyses to ensure petroleum and fuel levels are within safety standards. Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants may qualify on education if they possess one full year of graduate education directly related to the position.

18 semester hours is considered satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
