This position is located on the Rocky Mountain Research Station located in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Serves as a technical assistant responsible for the collection, organization, and analysis of data for botanical species and plant habitats on a National Forest or Grassland.

Duties
Conduct a variety of field studies of native and non-native botanical species and their habitats.
Schedule, organize, and execute botanical projects involving native and/or non-native species.
Evaluate data in order to make recommendations for improvement of habitat.
Develop plans to collect data for use in habitat and species condition analysis.
Collect survey and inventory data to determine species identity, population characteristics, environmental conditions, and factors affecting the vigor and extent of the species and their habitat.
Analyze and refine botanical data to develop reports.
Resolve common administrative and safety concerns related to projects.
Develop techniques, methods, and equipment based on experience, practical knowledge, and prescribed procedures.
Use computer systems and associated software for recording, organizing, storing, and analyzing data.
Provide detailed reports on work methods, data collected, and project monitoring.
Determines need and recommends equipment requirements for botanical projects and assures equipment is operational and available.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-0404-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05. Specialized experience is defined as meeting ALL the following:
Performed field work for projects related to vegetation management and botany including taking measurements and recording observations.
Assisted with conducting surveys for plants in project areas that included on-the-ground reconnaissance and record examination.
Recorded and compiled vegetation and botanical data for use in analysis and reporting.
There is no education supplement for the GS06 position.
