About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington in the Resource Management Division, Uniform Business Office. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Tacoma is located on the shores of Commencement Bay, within pristine eyesight of Mount Rainier. Duties
Determine appropriate itemized billing amount from the DoD approved Medical and Dental Services Rates Table, either Champus Maximum Allowable Charges (CMAC) or DRG billing rates.
Makes initial contact with Emergency Room, Admission and Disposition desk and the appropriate clinic to obtain billing information and ascertains if Madigan has preadmission certifications.
Review and retrieve any data needed by the insurance company to assist in the billing.
Prepare case files for accounts being transferred to the Judge Advocate General Office for further investigation/action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain a Financial Management Level 1 Certification within the first two years of employment.
- This position is sensitivity to Non-Critical Sensitive, Tier 2 security clearance.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or expericne requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:: One year of specialized experience which includes; performing medical billing activities and functions used in billing and collecting claims for the cost of medical care; entering and retrieving data in an automated medical accounting and/or billing system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Billing.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
In addition to meeting the specialized experience above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below:
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
