About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center Office of Patient Administration Records, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the capital, Olympia. Tacoma is located on the shores of Commencement Bay, within eyesight of Mount Rainier. Duties
Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and third-party insurance requirements in utilizing the International Code of Diseases-10 Clinical Modifications (ICD-10-CM), and Procedure Coding System (PCS) coding books.
Perform quantitative analysis and checks medical record for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Analyze and interpret documentation in record, ensuring accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data.
Perform utilization review of records to assure diagnosis responsible for the length of stay is appropriately identified and the secondary diagnoses are sequenced properly to assure maximum allocation under the Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) system.
Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes, translating diagnostic and procedural phrases from the medical record into coded form, using International Classification of Disease-10, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), and ICD-10-PCS; utilizing medical terminology to complete coding of diagnosis, procedures and operations; and ensuring medical records are accurate by utilizing hospital automated patient health record related software such as, MHS GENESIS to retrieve various reports and input data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
