Incumbent performs technical work in support of diagnostic radiology and is responsible for the oversight of the affiliated DRT educational program. The incumbent creates daily work plans and coordinates student evaluation. The instructor has knowledge of the VCU affiliation requirements and oversees the VA standards to ensure compliance. Attends any required meetings with the affiliate and shares relevant information with the imaging administrative team as well as our partners in Education.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Performs the full spectrum of radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations in a tertiary care facility.
Performs procedures such as fluoroscopy, gastrointestinal examinations, conventional plain film radiography, myelography, fluoroscopic guided, portable radiography, etc.
Performs examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for routine physical examinations and for diagnosis of illness or of injuries of accidents victims.
Performs radiographic procedures using the proper exposure techniques, including manual and photo timed exposures. These exams are performed using exposure tables, digital radiography buckies, collimators; grids, and other technical aids to produce radiographs of diagnostic quality with the minimum of retakes.
Responsible for minor equipment adjustments, repairs, and exercises care in the handling and safe guarding of all equipment.
Provides direct one on one instruction to rotating technologist students and direct & indirect instruction to Radiology Residents.
Responsible for training, assisting, supervising, and coordinating the work of one or more lower graded technologists when an assigned area requires more than one technologist.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d)
Grade Determinations: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of (GS-08), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.

Preferred Experience: Previous clinical instructor experience preferred.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-9. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-9.
Physical Requirements: The physical demand of the work includes heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulder ; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing lead apron for long periods of time.
