This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Smithsonian Facilities (SF), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). The incumbent for this position serves under the Mobile Asset Supervisor. The employee is responsible for installing, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, modifying, testing and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems.
Duties
The Lead Engineering Technician functions as the senior technical advisor for the local fleet, overseeing tasks such as scheduling, distributing, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, modifying, and balancing workload. Additionally, they are tasked with testing and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as installing, inspecting, repairing, and diagnostic testing to Mobile Asset Repair Equipment such as gasoline/diesel assets and EV-Electrical Vehicles.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
