This position is located in the Commodity Protection & Quality Research Unit, Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area in Parlier, CA. In this position, you will be responsible for various secretarial/administrative and program support duties that are essential to the smooth operation of the laboratory's administrative office and research programs.

Duties

Participates in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination/tracking, agreements, and human resources administration. Advises on procedural and documentation requirements for research plans, annual progress reports, international travel proposals, and cooperative agreements, grants, and trusts. Schedules conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants. Provides training and advisory services to the RL and professional staff in all program administrative procedures ensuring compliance with regulations. Serves as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the unit. Reviews all formal outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, punctuation, etc., in accordance with Agency correspondence guidelines. Maintains tracking logs, action items, manages administrative suspense items and transaction records.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-06 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience applying established guidelines involving program or administrative processes; assisting with office administration tasks including coordinating travel, ordering office supplies, or receiving leave requests; and using word processing programs to edit documents. Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. GS-07 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is participating in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination, purchasing and procurement of supplies and equipment; using a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software for editing documents; and providing training and advisory services to the professional staff. Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
