This position is located with the USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Diseases, Pest and Genetics Division in Parlier, CA.
In this position, you will assist the Research Leader (RL) and professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Management Unit.
This is a term time-limited appointment with an initial duration of no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Duties
Participate in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination/tracking, agreements, and purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources administration.
Provide training and advisory services to the RL and professional staff in all program administrative procedures ensuring compliance with regulations.
Responsible for the administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property, personnel, and other administrative instruments for the management unit.
Maintain tracking logs, action items, manage administrative suspense items and transaction records.
Uses an electronic calendar, database or spreadsheet software to document employee leave schedules and to commit the RL's time for appointments and meetings, transmit and receive documents and messages electronically.
Develop and implement new systems or administrative processes to meet unit needs.
Screen all calls and visitors, answering most questions on established policy or routine matters.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience maintaining detailed records for an office environment; and answering phone calls or assisting visitors.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing or tracking financial documents; maintaining detailed records or files; and participating in program planning support work including project coordination, travel, budget, or procurement of supplies and equipment.
