About the Position: Serve as a Department of the Army Police Officer at one of the two Military Ocean Terminals (MOT), responsible for maintaining order and protecting life and property on the installation and/or harbor restricted waters.

Duties

Respond to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol. Conduct waterside security patrols of U.S. Military, non-military, and foreign ships at berth which may contain explosives. Perform protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts. Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or have a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Must meet requirements of AR 190-56, to include successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical/psychiatric evaluation; pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date
  • and annually thereafter; and Must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Must obtain and retain one or more of the following U.S. Coast Guard licenses: Small Boat Captains Operator of -Un-Inspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) License, U.S. Army Marine Certification IAW Chapter 5, AR 56-9,
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) business travel to worldwide locations is required less than 25% of the time.
  • Subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid (Secret) security investigation.
  • This is a drug testing position. Testing will be accomplished initially and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent may be required to swerve a 1 year probationary period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interpreting, applying, and exercising discretion in enforcement of Federal and State criminal and traffic laws, regulations, and standards utilizing standard law enforcement techniques to perform duties such as issuing citations, arresting violators, performing traffic patrol, and questioning individuals at the scene of an incident. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
