About the Position: Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 1 year. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Duties

Lead others by assisting, providing instructions, training, or answering questions regarding work procedures and directives. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Provides a brief to site commander and/or chief of maintenance on the purpose of the inspection, the initial evaluation, and a final report on the condition of the equipment. Plan daily work and the utilization of available facilities, materials, and other resources following detailed work control documents and pre-established schedules and priorities. Prepare material estimates, skills determinations, and special tool requirements. Briefs team members on management policies and programs as required, and maintains daily time and attendance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Fifty percent business travel or temporary duty (TDY) requirement on an annual basis.
  • Must enroll in the respiratory protection program.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Scaffolding and Aerial Lift certifications within two years of appointment.
  • Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an General Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the common General Equipment Mechanic Leader tasks including working in the sheet metal, painting, and equipment cleaning, electrician, and maintenance trades; and assisting lower graded workers with the most difficult tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader of journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Climbs ladders, scaffolds, and may work from platforms or high reach equipment. May work in cramped and awkward positions and have to reach, bend, and lift while using tools, parts and/or equipment. Working Conditions: Works inside in a variety of weather conditions. Subject to exposure to dust and dirt, grease, furmes, moise, etc. May also be subject to cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shocks, etc. Safety equipment is provided to minimize hazards.
