This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Leads a team of civilians or military police officers engaged in patrol duties. Reviews police reports, patrol reports and ongoing investigations to ensure complete/concise and factual information/reporting. Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Exercises search authority, arrest authority, felony arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects/resisting subjects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar, and breath alcohol testing instruments. Protects personnel, material, tactical military assets, and high value assets by executing daily RAM and supplemental anti-terrorism measures during increased force protection conditions. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data. Provides on the job training to new employees.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • In accordance with AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles and obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must meet all requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must take and pass an initial Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire, and annually thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), Public Safety Commission, for access to and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information and operation of NLETS/ NCIC terminals.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56 must be able to qualify initially and at a minimum, semi-annually re-certify with assigned weapon(s) and handling of assigned weapon(s) to include less than lethal weapons.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience for the GS-08 grade level: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance related to law enforcement duties to other police officers; utilizing standard law enforcement policies or procedures; and reviewing law enforcement reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job there is no education substitution for experience, you must qualify based on specialized experience.
