About the Position: Serve as the Range Control Technician providing transmitting pertinent safety operational information on range and training activities.
Duties
Authorize the opening, check fire, cease fire, and closing of all live fire ranges, artillery, and mortar firing points, training sites and training areas.
Assist in controlling and monitoring aircraft and ground training on the range complex.
Utilize various software and databases to generate reports, input range ammunition expenditure information, training facilities utilization, and personnel utilization.
Conduct clearance inspections from range and training areas prior to units’ departure.
Ensure range and training activities adhere to regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require you to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position may require you to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
- This position may require you to work overtime.
- This position requires you to possess or obtain and maintain Range Facility Management Support System and Range Safety Certifications.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes
Experience interpreting and applying safety procedures, ammunition, or reported danger conditions to disseminate information;
Experience operating telecommunication equipment to transmit appropriate information to user; and
Experience assisting with monitoring live fire range training areas, restricted airspace, or training facilities to ensure safety compliance.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
