Duties
Receive assignments related to the mission and functions of the Hydroelectric Design Center by on-the-job training through assignments from several offices and/or functional areas designed to provide broad experience.
Support special developmental projects which includes but not limited to attending professional meetings, coordinating with engineers and scientists and receiving on-the-job instruction.
Perform work assignments of limited scope and difficulty designed to provide advanced practical application and experience of theories and principles in the field of specialization.
Assist in work assignments such as searching and providing reference material to collect information, performing analyses, computations and calculations on a variety of data, and similar support work of limited scope.
Requirements
- A trial or probationary period may be required in accordance with agency policy.
- A post-secondary student appointment expires 120 days after completion of the designated academic course of study, unless the student is selected for noncompetitive conversion.
- Post-secondary students being converted to positions covered under Administrative Careers with America (ACWA) must be assessed prior to non-competitive conversion.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Qualifications
About the Position: This is a development position for Post-Secondary Students pursuing engineering, mathematics, statistics, economics, physical science, and related professional/scientific career fields. You will serve in an entry level, developmental capacity to acquire the specialized skills and knowledge to serve as a contributing team member.
Who May Apply: To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of post-secondary student as defined below:
Post-Secondary Student: a person who, (1) is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and (2) is making satisfactory progress towards receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and (3) has completed at least one year of the program.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. For the GS-05 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service must have a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
Selective Placement Factor: Must be a current student enrolled in an engineering, mathematics, statistics, physical science, economics, data science or related professional/scientific academic program at an accredited college or university.
This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment.

Post-secondary students being considered for initial appointments to positions leading to target positions with positive education requirements should be enrolled in directly-related degree programs in order to meet the OPM qualification requirements for the target position upon completion of their academic program.
