You will serve as a MAIL ASSISTANT in the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Mail Center of Department of Navy Assistant for Administration (DON/AA).
Duties
You will provide essential official mail service to staff agencies.
You will ensure proper disposition of official mail and distribution items.
You will oversee routing and handling of accountable mail, and ensure all mail is sent by the most cost effective method.
You will maintain and update circulars and distribution lists, posting changes as required.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position requires you to maintain unescorted access to the Pentagon.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Inability to obtain and maintain the required clearance level may be a cause for removal from the position.
- This position may require occasional travel.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
Qualifications
For GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
Sorting incoming mail and distributing throughout the installation to distribution points.
Assisting in packaging of forms and publications in preparation for shipment.
Reporting violations to management for further action and resolution.
Maintaining records of official mail.
For GS-07:
Utilizing postal regulations to include commercial vendors (i.e. FedEx, UPS, DHL) and internal to the organization types of mail.
Maintaining records of official mail to ensure audit readiness.
Formulating and issuing instructions to clarify published guidelines.
