About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is with 7th Signal Command, 21st Signal Brigade, 302nd Signal Battalion, located at Camp Roberts, California.

Duties

Serve as a Telecommunication Specialist responsible to the Commander, United States Army Signal Activity (USASA) Camp Roberts, 302d Signal Battalion. Perform troubleshooting and provide technical direction to ensure timely restoration of optimal telecommunications services, involving highly complex and technical issues. Ensure personnel comply with regulatory, doctrinal, procedural, and best practice initiatives in troubleshooting and restoration of telecommunications services and systems. Provide status updates to the Shift Supervisor and ensures all activities are properly recorded as dictated by regulatory, procedural, and best practice initiatives. Perform maintenance, provide technical direction, and perform QA/QC involving highly complex and technical issues while working with personnel located in different functional areas and organizations at various echelons. Provide positive control of repair parts and access to repair parts for all maintenance activities. Provide site certification and developmental training on all systems, equipment, services, and procedures involving highly complex and technical training on all operational systems, equipment, and mission types. Ensure all Emergency Restoral Plans are kept current and can be implemented.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent must be available on an on-call basis to provide immediate assistance in the event of a non-line system failure or other demands, as required.
  • The incumbent will work on rotating shifts and must remain on duty regardless of weather, fire, earthquakes, or other natural or man-made disturbances.

Qualifications

This announcement is for a Cyber Term position. Permanent employees who apply, are selected for, and ultimately accept this position will be converted to a Cyber Term appointment. Term positions in CES may be extended up to a maximum of five years. This position may be converted to permanent without further competition after completion of three years of continuous service in this position. This position is in the Professional Category at the Full Performance Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by recommending methods for enhancing the efficiency of complex telecommunication systems; providing innovative solutions for resolving problems associated with telecommunication networks and technology; identifying and arranging telecommunication systems training needs for personnel; and maintaining various telecommunications equipment.
