About the Position: This position is located at Naval Health Clinic Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties

Evaluate and install complex medical equipment or systems, to include standalone equipment or components that contain integrated circuitry or microprocessors. Provide advice and assistance in equipment selection, application, care, and operation. Ensure that cabling and hardware are in place and are functioning and capable of interfacing with said hardware (modalities). Inspect patient care equipment to include receipt, inventory of parts, accessories, assembly, inspection, calibration, performance verification, parts replacement, documentation and interpretation of inspection results. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, and surveillance testing of electronic components, medical equipment and systems, and complete modifications based on official guidance.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying medical equipment malfunctions and/or manufacturing defects to recommend solutions; coordinating with medical staff and/or medical equipment manufacturers to set up equipment and systems compliant with specifications; and testing medical equipment in current use to determine serviceability. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
