The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Fixed Wing Flight Senior Test Engineer and Gunship Element lead.
Duties
Functions as subject matter expert, and technical lead for AFSOC fixed wing aircraft and subsystems testing and evaluation.
Serves as Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead for the Fixed Wing flight, Gunship element.
Serves as lead test engineer in support of AFSOC fixed wing aircraft and subsystems ground and flight testing.
Represents the Fixed Wing flight, Gunship element within a variety of government, contractor, and functional area organizations.

- This is an acquisition coded position. Selectee must complete required certification level 2 in Test and Evaluation within 24 months of assignment.

- Physical Required: Flying duties require exposure to a dynamic and physically demanding flight environment. Incumbents must pass and maintain a USAF Flying Class III physical IAW AFI 48-123.
- Comply with AFI 48-123 standards for flying qualifications and requirements to see a flight surgeon for DNIF/RTFS determination.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, General Schedule Positions, 0800 - 0899 - Engineering and Architecture. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

A. Degree: Have a Bachelor's Degree in professional engineering from a curriculum (1) in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineer curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (beyond first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics; (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing a broad range of engineering concepts, techniques and expertise in support of the test and evaluation of various types of air-to-air and air-to-ground programs, aircraft systems and weapon integration.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Professional knowledge of test and evaluation engineering concepts, principles, and practices and extensive familiarity with other engineering disciplines; a broad range of engineering standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to ensure systems are evaluated in compliance with regulations and standards; and the operations, products, services, needs, and goals of the AFSOC mission area.
Knowledge of test and evaluation concepts, principles, and techniques that ensure effective testing across the full spectrum of system and sub-system required analysis as applied to the development and application of these systems in the evaluation of highly complex AFSOC fixed-wing aircraft.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of relevant government and industry standards, regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the functions of a small to medium sized organizational element.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
