This position performs duties of a journeyman maintenance which involve maintaining, repairing, installing, modifying, troubleshooting, testing, and inspecting of real and personal property in trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning, pipefitting, welding, and mechanical.
Duties
Performs maintenance, repairs, and inspections on steam systems such as steam lines, copper, brass, and iron, high and low pressure return lines, vacuum and drip. Makes repairs to traps and pressure reducing equipment, solder joints. Cuts and threads pipes.
Performs maintenance, repairs and inspections on plumbing systems such as sinks, water closets, drinking fountains, hot water storage, hot and cold water lines, copper, brass and iron, sanitary sewers, vents, and storm sewers.
Performs maintenance, repairs and inspections on pumps such as lift, vacuum, condensate, and circulating.
Performs maintenance, repairs, and inspections on carpentry items such as ceiling tiles, furniture, walls, floors, trim, windows, handrailing, cubical tracks, and curtain rods. Hang pictures, plaques, bulletin boards, calendars, clocks and other hanging devices. Adjusts doors, door closers and locks, hardware and stops.
Performs a wide range of tests/checks related to electrical safety and equipment operation as outlined by JCAHO, OSHA, NFPA, VA, and other pertinent standards, policies, and codes.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Work requires standing, reaching, bending, climbing, kneeling and stooping in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds. May occasionally lift objects exceeding 40 pounds.
