Qualifications

Qualifications for the position are based on the  training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WG-11, your resume should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory sufficient to complete repairs on electrical systems and equipment containing diodes, transistors, and electronic devices in the circuitry.  Knowledge of mechanical theory and of pneumatic and hydraulic principles sufficient to isolate, repair, or replace faulty components such as hydraulic/pneumatic pressure regulators and hydraulic volume controls on many different types of equipment. Knowledge of techniques and safety precautions unique to high voltage systems.  Systems consist of voltages above 600 volts. (These voltages, if mishandled, can cause significant injury or death to personnel and damage to equipment.) Your application will also be rated on the following job elements: Ability to do the work of the position. Troubleshooting (electrical). Ability to use electrical drawings. Ability to provide production support services. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Technical Competence – The ability to exercises responsibility for providing technical and advisory supervision regarding the preservation and maintenance work on all high voltage electrical machinery, shipboard electrical machinery, and mechanical machinery and equipment in the Reserve Fleet. Analytical – The ability to perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, replacement, and installation of high voltage power distribution systems (from 4,000 to 13,200 VAC), 480 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 24 VAC and 12 VAC electrical cables, switches, transformers, and other components associated with these electrical systems; (2) troubleshoot, test, installation, repair, overhaul, modify, and maintenance of electrical devices, equipment, and components; and (3) perform laboring duties. Communication -The ability to coordinates tasks with other supervisors, who have parallel responsibilities in their respective trades and crafts, with the overriding requirement to work safely together and efficiently complete the work assignments, assuring that they are in full compliance with program criteria. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
