Qualifications
Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
To qualify for the WG-12, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following:
The ability to operate ships, fleet craft requiring manpower, including coverage for emergency conditions.
The ability to inspect and assess mooring arrangements for ships berthed at the Reserve Fleets, direct subordinates in corrective action, and coordinate its management.
The ability to interpret and apply navigation rules and navigation aids in charting the movement of ships and fleet craft.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Technical Competence - Exercises responsibility for providing technical and advisory supervision regarding the preservation and maintenance work on all high voltage electrical machinery, shipboard electrical machinery, and mechanical machinery and equipment in the Reserve Fleet.
Analytical - Supervise employees involved in (1) performing preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, replacement, and installation of high voltage power distribution systems (from 4,000 to 13,200 VAC), 480 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 24 VAC and 12 VAC electrical cables, switches, transformers, and other components associated with these electrical systems; (2) troubleshooting, testing, installation, repair, overhaul, modifying, and maintenance of electrical devices, equipment, and components; and (3) performing laboring duties.
Communication - Coordinates tasks with other supervisors, who have parallel responsibilities in their respective trades and crafts, with the overriding requirement to work safely together and efficiently complete the work assignments, assuring that they are in full compliance with program criteria.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
