This position serves to provide support for the Veteran Transportation Program (VTP) and report directly to the Mobility Manager. This position is a Supervisory Motor Vehicle Operator for the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System (VALLHCS) VTP and will be the general Supervisor of the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS), and Motor Vehicle Operators. The incumbent is responsible for the overall daily operation and the long term management of the service.
Duties
The major duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor include, but are not limited to:
Provides daily supervision and guidance within the administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff support.
Establishes clear articulated and measurable guidelines and performance expectations for staff through the formal employee performance management system.
Surveys and evaluates transportation program operations to access compliance with applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and sound management practices for VTS operations, drivers and vehicle compliance.
Manages problems effectively, issues, and emergency/non-emergency situations.
Resolves potential problems via communication with VTS drivers enrooted to Veteran's pickup location and Medical facilities and return travel.
Prepares appropriate documentation and/or scheduling for traveler according to VTP program guidelines.
Serves as liaison to service lines, residents, beneficiaries and their representatives.
Communicates with all levels of personnel, both internal and external.
Exercises a high degree of coordination, tact, poise, and diplomacy while working with the public, both with in and outside the medical center.
Maintains knowledge of transportation requirements for the State of California.
Focuses on the movement of people rather than vehicles on the entire trip.
Ensures appropriate response to safeguard everyone in the vehicle in the likelihood of an accident or other emergency.
Develops innovative ways to remove barriers for transportation to VA Medical Facilities.
Identifies, analyzes, and resolves time keeping and special pay issues that arise.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-4:30 pm (subject to change)

Must posses a current, valid state-issued Drivers License.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be in good physical condition when performing driving and related services, particularly when driving for extended periods of time and distances. Must be vigilant and alert to cope with adverse traffic and weather conditions. Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects more than 50 pounds. Shall wear appropriate safety apparel, utilize proper loading of equipment, and employ recommended lifting techniques to prevent injury and/or damage to property. Exposed to extended periods of bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and walking during pick-up and delivery phases of job completion. Must be sensitive to the needs of passengers and must exercise patience and render assistance whenever possible. May require transporting of patients. Occasionally drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions and is exposed to potentially hazardous situation and serious accidents.
