Incumbent is a Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) WG-6, in the Veterans Transportation Services unit of the Health Administration Service, Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center. The primary function of the MVO is to perform driving duties and related services, operating various types of vehicles up to 32,000 LBS gross weight, and transporting patients, specimens, prescriptions, drugs, prosthetic equipment, and other items and materials essential to patient care.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operate sedans, station wagons, vans, or Star trans buses to commute to and from clinics and other hospitals.
Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle assigned to him/her and shall comply with policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
Read and analyze data on special gauges to ensure proper engine operation, passenger loading and transporting techniques and procedures, including the safety and comfort of passengers and cargo.
Completes assignments within established time frames, In the event the work or services cannot be accomplished within the specified time; the MVO must notify the supervisor immediately.
Safely operate gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles equipped with automatic or standard transmissions.
Notifies his/her supervisor immediately upon receipt of any moving violation or citation received from Federal, State or City traffic/law enforcement agencies.
Operate vehicles in accordance with Federal, State and City vehicle codes and regulations. Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle.
Protects materials, supplies and equipment from the elements. MVO must assure the passenger(s) are properly secured.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Wed - Sunday Tour of Duty will range from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/17/2023.
The MVO must possess a valid State of California Class C Driver's License.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects more than 50 pounds. The MVO shall wear appropriate safety apparel, utilize proper loading of equipment, and employ recommended lifting techniques to prevent injury and/or damage to property. The MVO is exposed to extended periods of bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and walking during pick-up and delivery phases of job completion. The MVO must be in good physical condition when performing driving and related services, particularly when driving for extended periods of time and distances. The MVO must be vigilant and alert to cope with adverse traffic and weather conditions.
