About the Position: This position is located at Fort Riley, Kansas.
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veterans' preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered. Duties
Execute access control when required by verifying Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Cards and authorizations.
Monitor personnel access into restricted areas (e.g., pharmacy, warehouses, etc.).
Respond to all incidents.
Perform duties as a first responder during emergencies, protecting and ensuring life, health, and safety.
Document patrols of all Mission Essential or Vulnerable Area (MEVA) and High-Risk Targets (HRT) identified by the Hospital Commander.
Provide written reports of findings concerning incident to the supervisor.
Conduct both internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinics, parking lots, and grounds
Provide for personnel security of patients and staff (including addressing the risks of violence in the workplace), and visitors coming to the hospital’s facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays) and rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals),
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
- This position requires the incumbent to qualify annually and be proficient in required firearms, scanner metal detector and oleoresin capsicum (OC) pepper spray/foam.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
- This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- This position is under the Federal Motor Operations medical requirement specified in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Section 930 Part 109; persons operating a Government owned or leased vehicle are subject to medical testing once every 4 years.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes detection and prevention of theft, damage, and/or trespassing; and checking documents of persons seeking entrance to restricted areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
