The position serves as Director of Nursing; planning, organizing, directing & coordinating nursing services in the hospital & collaborating with other departments to assure coordinated overall clinical services. Serves as a member of the Hospital Executive Committee that is responsible for overall direction of the hospital.
Routine duties include providing nursing care services to individuals eligible for services provided by IHS in homes, schools, clinics, job sites & other community locations
Duties
Implements an effective on-going program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients. Formulates and implements plan of action to effectively utilize resources.
Develops and manages budget for the nursing department.
Implements changes in existing programs and develops new programs to meet emerging needs.
Develops and maintains criteria for standards of nursing care and for procedures to audit compliance with established standards.
Directs the assignment of all nursing personnel to meet the needs for patient care.

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience
The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Overseeing a nursing division in an operating health care facility; management ability to delegate authority; formulating and implementing nursing services in accordance with existing requirements, methods and procedures; conducting meetings and conferences with subordinate supervisors and staff; providing leadership and direction to nursing programs ensuring proper health care management, evidence based practice, safe and quality patient care; establishing and maintaining compliance with various regulatory accreditations, professional agencies, administrative policies and procedures, laws, regulations, standards and directive that are applicable to the organization; maintaining positive partnerships with community, tribal and educational programs and institutions and ensuring accountability to the governing board.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
