This position is located at the Greater Leech Lake Service Unit of the Bemidji Area in Cass Lake, Minnesota. This Critical Access Hospital provides 24-hour Emergency Room services, Inpatient and Outpatient Services to Native American beneficiaries who access care at the Service Unit. The purpose of the position is to provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to individuals across the lifespan.

Duties

Analyze and interpret patient history, symptoms, physical findings or diagnostic information to develop appropraite diagnoses. Develop treatment plan based on scientific rationale, standards of care and professional practice guidelines. Diagnose or treat acute health care problems, i.e., illness, infection or injury. Prescribe medication based on efficacy, safety, dosage and frequency. Counsel patients on drug regimen and possible side effects or interactions with other substances, i.e., food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications or herbal remedies. Educate patient about self-management of acute or chronic illness, tailoring instructions to patient's individual circumstances.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Experience The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications for GS-09 Grade Level To qualify at the GS-09 (or equivalent) grade level, applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of nursing experience include: Providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients. Assignments at this level are generally developmental for new Nurse Practitioner graduates. Minimum Qualifications for GS-11 Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Examples include: Providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients. Assignments at this level are progressively more difficult, in order to expand diagnostic and therapeutic skills, with supervisor or senior employee providing assistance on unusual problems. Minimum Qualifications for GS-12 In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Examples include: Providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care for patients, as well as counseling and/or coordinating services and participating with other disciplines in reviewing the program. Taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering laboratory studies during clinic visits. May carry out special procedures such as giving injections or other medication, apply or change dressing, perform lumbar punctures, or suture minor laceration. Minimum Qualifications for GS-13 In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Examples include: Working as an independent practice as an advanced nurse practitioner, including duties like analyzing and interpreting patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses, prescribing medications, managing acute and chronic care conditions, and developing treatment plans. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
