The primary purpose of this position MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WG-4749-10, is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair multiple utility systems accomplishing trades and labor work of maintenance mechanics, electronics industrial controls mechanics, and utility systems operators.
Duties
Perform operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of various special utility systems including: fire suppression systems, electric and diesel driven booster pumps, motors, control panels, sprinkler heads, water storage tanks, and reservoirs.
Perform operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of various special utility systems including natural gas distribution and compressed air system piping, meters, regulators, and components.
Perform operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of various liquid fuels systems and components in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Independently install, modify, repair, and maintain a variety of new and existing utility, supply, disposal systems and equipment, such as water, wastewater, storm water system components, manholes, valves, fire hydrants, water closets, tubs, showers, fixtures, valves, piping, and fittings.
Operate motorized equipment such as: mini excavator, skid steer loader, trash pumps, demolition saws, specialized, pickup trucks and the industrial hydro sewer vacuum trucks and trailers.

- Travels according to guidelines in the Joint Federal Travel Regulations
- May be required to work any shift, may be subject to recall in the event of an emergency.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequently works in confined spaces and may wear half faces respirator or comfort fit face piece to accomplish tasks, makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where parts of systems worked on are hard to reach places. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 25lbs unassisted and over 25lbs with assistance. NOTE: THIS REQUIRES A PRE EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside during extreme weather conditions and is usually dirty, dust, and greasy conditions. Occasionally makes repairs in areas where foul and/or hazardous fumes are present. The worker is occasionally exposed to the possibility of loud noise, fire, explosion, asphyxiation, broken bones, scrapes, bums, electric shock, and infectious solids and liquids. May be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, respirator,, hard hats, ear protection devices, safety harnesses, and other personal protective equipment. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Certificate of Completion - USAF Fire Suppression Systems/Fire Alarm Maintenance Course or equivalent

Natural Gas Pipeline Certification (exterior)
National Swimming Pool and Spa Certification
Liquid Fuels Class B Operator Certificate
