About the Position: This position is with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security on Fort Carson, Colorado. Incumbent serves as a work leader to accomplish trades and labor work as a target systems mechanic.

Duties

Serve as a working leader, establishing work speed and ensuring that rules, regulations, and safety practices are followed. Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available to accomplish assigned work. Answer worker's questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders). Operate heavy equipment to backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications. Perform maintenance on equipment operated. Inspect work in progress for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Incumbent required to pass pre-employment drug screening and randomly thereafter.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Colorado Class A, commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • This position has a heavy lifting requirement of up to 75 pounds.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover 24 hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week range operation.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to lead or superviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Working in awkward or cramped quarters and handling of objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking/jolting from operating over rough surface (farm tractor and dump truck). Working Conditions: The duties involve working in extreme adverse weather conditions, (i.e., low/high temperature, snow/rain, windy and excessive dust). The work environment will be around excessive noise, (intermittent) solvents, grease/oil, sulfuric acid, uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts and open 480 volts. The work environment will require use of protective clothing or gear, such as safety shoes, ear protection, helmet and observance of appropriate safety precautions. The official duty station of this position is the assigned Remote Electronic Target Systems (RETS) Range which may be up to 30 miles, one way, from Range Control, Bldg. 2740.
