You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the Supply and Administration services division of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Duties

You will properly care for the vehicle which includes but is not limited to checking fluid levels, checking for correct air pressure in tires, and ensuring that lights and brakes are in working order. You will operate various types of motor vehicles including gasoline or diesel pickup trucks, panel trucks, trucks or tractors with trailer or semi-trailer coupled by a turntable. You will safely transport explosive material in explosive designated vehicles over public roads, private roads, and government property. You will handle each cryogenic liquid dewar with the utmost care so as to prevent possible skin or eye contact. You will verify that the markings on the cylinder correspond to the receipt, handling, storage or delivery documentation. You will handle, block, and brace explosive material in accordance with basic explosive safety handling rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tank Vehicle/Hazardous Materials Combination "X" endorsement within 90 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, performing the following duties: 1) Operating various types of motor vehicles including gasoline or diesel pickup trucks, panel trucks, trucks or tractors with trailer or semi-trailer coupled by a turntable; 2) Handling, blocking, and bracing explosive material in accordance with basic explosive safety handling rules and regulations; and 3) Safety transporting explosive material in explosive designated vehicles over public roads, private roads, and government property.
