You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the Supply and Administration Services Divison of the NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.
Duties
You will operate various types of motor vehicles including gasoline or diesel pickup trucks, panel trucks, trucks or tractors with trailer or semi-trailer coupled by a turntable.
You will verify that the markings on the cylinder correspond to the receipt, handling, storage or delivery documentation.
You will handle each cryogenic liquid dewar with the utmost care so as to prevent possible skin or eye contact.
You will properly care for the vehicle which includes but is not limited to checking fluid levels, checking for correct air pressure in tires, and ensuring that lights and brakes are in working order.
You will be responsible for sounding fuel oil tanks and receiving deliveries of fuel oil.
You will be required to verify bulk liquid helium and nitrogen deliveries made by authorized vendors.
You will be required to operate fork lifts trucks capable of lifting loads up to and including 20,000 pounds, to a height up to, and in excess of 168 inches.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tank Vehicle/Hazardous Materials Combination "X" endorsement within 90 days of appointment.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift certification.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

1) Operating various types of motor vehicles including gasoline or diesel pickup trucks, panel trucks, trucks or tractors with trailer or sei-trailer coupled by a turntable; 2) Ensuring that each cylinder is properly tagged to content (full or empty) and that each cylinder is delivered to the proper address and is secured; 3) Estimating load weights and center of gravity for proper lift and prevent tipping.; 4) Responsible for sounding fuel oil tanks and receiving deliveries of fuel oil and required to verify bulk liquid helium and nitrogen deliveries made by authorized vendors; 5) Required to operate forklift trucks capable of lifting loads up to and including 20,000 pounds, to a height up to, and in excess to 168 inches.
