As an Information Technology (IT) Specialist supporting the Office of the Ames Research Center Chief Information Officer (CIO), you will serve in various IT roles specific to the Center and Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Enterprise offices. Utilizing effective interpersonal skills, you will engage in all areas of IT support, including but not limited to network, telecommunications, cable plant, and cybersecurity management.
Duties
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Serve as the primary liaison between the OCIO's Network and Telecommunication Systems (NaTS) service line and their Ames customer base, facilitating effective communication and coordination of NaTS’ initiatives.
Provide expert guidance and support in solving complex network and telecommunications challenges, ensuring achievement of key performance indicators.
Translate technical NaTS solutions to meet Ames-specific needs and make recommendations to ensure seamless integration and service delivery.
Actively engage in strategic planning to develop and implement long-term service goals aligned with agency objectives.
Serve as a cybersecurity expert and advisor to the Authorizing Official Designated Representative on the integration and enhancement of locally-managed system security plans, ensuring compliance with policies and advancement in security measures.
Coordinate and conduct thorough reviews and assessments of IT systems to ensure compliance with NASA's security requirements and the underlying governmental standards such as the NIST 800 series.
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks, ensuring the implementation of effective security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure the integrity and availability of information systems.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Analyzing IT network or telecommunications systems, identifying deficiencies or risks, and devising solutions to problems;
Participating in or conducting systems security evaluations, assessments, or audits to ensure compliance with cybersecurity controls;
Supporting internal or external IT customer service delivery requirements and advising on operational or strategic issues.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:
Analyzing complex IT network or telecommunications systems and implementing changes to IT systems or services to ensure seamless integration and service delivery;
Providing guidance and support for IT-related initiatives, assessments, or audits to improve and enhance security plans;
Briefing senior leadership on IT issues and making recommendations for strategic planning.
AND
If you are qualifying based on experience, you MUST also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
