THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST - TITLE 5, Position Description Number PDT5909300 and PDT59046P1 and is part of the KY 123 AW, National Guard.

Duties

As a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST - TITLE 5, GS-0640/0690-10/11, you will ensure statutory and regulatory compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Air Force Occupational Safety and health (AFOSH) directives and regulations. Serve as an expert advisor concerning OSHA, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and US Air Force on installation health matters. Research industrial operations and develop, implement, and execute surveillance strategies, inspections, and evaluations to detect and eliminate health hazards. Perform inspections of operational facilities and worksites when statistical analyses and conditions dictate need, when new equipment is to be installed, and/or when hazardous conditions exist. Determine and assign Risk Assessment Code (RAC) to health hazards. Review plans for facility construction projects to ensure applicable OSHA, AFOSH, and EPA criteria are incorporated. Manage and assess installation environmental sampling, analysis, and monitoring requirements, and perform ambient, source and substance tests and monitoring. Serve as the installation point of contact and coordinator for Agency Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) activities. Develop, implement, and manage the Federal Hazard Communication Standard as mandated by OSHA. Interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for employees, management, and other health professionals. Authorize, review, and validate new hazardous material issued on AF Form 3952, Chemical Hazardous Material Request/Authorization. Serve as the competent authority on radioactive material on base, controlling management of these materials from receipt to disposal. Serve as the Base Radiation Safety Officer for Radio-Frequency radiation, ionizing radiation, and laser radiation. Serve as the program manager that ensures installation compliance with OSHA confined space standards. Research, formulate, and implement workplace air sampling surveys and evaluate results. Conduct noise surveys as needed. Direct the base Respiratory Protection Program (RPP). Manage the base drinking water surveillance program and the ergonomic program. Coordinate and perform Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health audits. As a member of the Environmental Differential Pay (EDP) review Committee, evaluate proposed EDP situations and plans. Update and review base disaster/contingency/response plans. Manage the base Quantitative Fit Test (QNFT) program. Perform other duties as assigned. FOR THE GS-10: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one (1) year experience at the next lower level in the normal line of progression through federal service (GS-09) or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates the basic knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene. Experience assisting with industrial hygiene duties such as survey, detection, evaluation, and sampling/testing techniques and related control measures for a variety of potential workplace-related health hazards. Knowledge and understnading of OSHA, AFOSH, EPA, other federal laws, and DoD, USAF, and ANG regulations, policies and procedures related to industrial hygiene. Experience performing data collection and analysis. FOR THE GS-11: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one (1) year experience at the next lower level in the normal line of progression through federal service (GS-10) or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates the knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene. Experience performing industrial hygiene duties such as survey, detection, evaluation, and sampling/testing techniques and related control measures for a variety of potential workplace-related health hazards. Experience interpreting and applying OSHA, AFOSH, EPA, other federal laws, and DoD, USAF, and ANG regulations, policies and procedures related to industrial hygiene. Experience planning, implementing, evaluating, and managing Industrial Hygiene programs. Experience with technical installation work operations and equipment relative to their effect on the health of employees. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Resume must have complete dates, work schedule, and/or hours worked per week for both civilian and military employment. Education

FOR THE GS-11:
Degree: Industrial Hygiene; or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.

Combination of education and experience: at least 12 semester hours of course work in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours as specified in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
