You will serve as a Supervisory General Engineer in the Systems Engineering Division of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will work closely and interfaces with other Division managers to negotiate changing requirements that may affect other organizational components. You will advise the Department Director of problems involving the relationship of the work of the Division to the broader Office. You will ensure all employees meet Job Qualification Requirements. You will create an environment that fosters innovation.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For GS-14: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience serving as project leader, project manager or supervisor of complex systems engineering projects and tasks, requiring professional expertise on ship mission systems and their application, as well as a broad practical understanding of systems engineering principles and best practices. Experience adapting technical expertise in ship mission systems, electrical, computer and/or mechanical engineering, and technologies related to ship mission systems. Experience supervising the work of multi-discipline engineers and technicians to provide technical advice integrated across a broad spectrum of ship mission systems and engineering technical areas. Experience establishing objectives and readiness plans; and assigning work to subordinate supervisors according to workload and project type. Experience evaluating employee performance and assists in the development of individual career development plans and provides or recommends training or work assignments in order to assure that assigned personnel have the opportunity to take full advantage of career opportunities. Experience observing the progress of all assignments in the organization. Experience maintaining meeting goals, objectives, and deadlines set by higher authority. Experience adjusting schedules and work operations to meet emergency or changing production requirements. Experience managing technical work problems presented by subordinate supervisors. Experience reviewing completed assignments prior to release to ensure quality and conformity to production specifications. Experience communicating both orally and in written in a clear precise and intentional manner. Basic Requirements:


Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1 , or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. 2.
